This oil has a wonderful story and represents one of the planets most sacred aromatic treasures. If you missed the story of this special oil the first time around, you can read it here.
Deeply medicinal and spiritually uplifting, this sandalwood oil is a Floracopeia favorite. Sandalwood oil is one of the best essential oils to apply directly to the body for immediate effect. It is safe, pleasant and effective in more ways than one. Apply this sandalwood oil to the forehead to alleviate headaches, calm the mind and encourage tranquility.
Sandalwood is revered as a perfume both by itself and as a base for other oils. Sandalwood essential oil cools, calms and uplifts. Its anti-depressant properties also assists in easing depression, stress and fear.
As a daily tonic, sandalwood oil can be used to still the active and anxious mind, causing peacefulness and content. A deeply healing oil, sandalwood oil, has anti-infectious and anti-fungal properties that will relieve skin infections and skin-fungus. Sandalwood essential oil will also soothe reddened inflamed skin and is a general skin anti-inflamatory that can be used in a massage oil or on its own.
How To Use Sandalwood Oil:
Sandalwood oil is one of the most easy to use essential oils as it is safe to apply directly to the skin. It can act as a carrier for other essential oils such as rose oil or jasmine oil, and almost any other oil that you enjoy wearing as a natural and therapeutic perfume. Most of our attar oils (traditional Indian perfumes) use sandalwood oils as their base.
Apply sandalwood oil to your forehead and temples to promote serenity of mind during meditation, relaxation on a stressful day and refresh the brain when there is more work to do. When applied to the forehead and temples, sandalwood oil is very effective in alleviating tension headaches.
This Sandalwood essential oil works as a wonderful deodorant when applied under the arms. When used regularly you will begin to emit the frangrance of sandalwood as you sweat! Use sandalwood oil diluted in a quality carrier oil such as marula oil or jojoba to cool the body, ease inflammation and dry skin, while relieving physical and emotional stress. Use Sandalwood oil before bed in a warm compress on the forehead to relax tension, and prevent insomnia or restlessness. Applied to the third eye point before or during sexual intercourse, sandalwood oil can support a deeper spiritual connection with your beloved during love-making.
More About The Sri Lanka Sandalwood Oil:
This limited edition collector's oil was distilled from the roots of old growth trees that were harvested several decades ago. Because of the difficulty removing the roots, they were left in the ground and were only recently salvaged. The fragrance of this oil is therefore not only extraordinary because it is from the true Santalum alba species, it has also aged beautifully in the ground over the years.
We are very concerned about the ethical harvesting of sandalwood, and do not carry Santalum alba as a regular product.
This oil not only has the unusual story of coming from salvaged roots, it is also certified organic. More importantly, the distiller of this oil is responsible for large-scale reforestation efforts to replant the sandalwood trees and establish organic aromatic crops in Sri Lanka. In this way, this oil is both a treasure remaining from the past - a fragrance from the days when the trees grew more plentifully - and a way of supporting the regeneration of this precious species.
Sandalwood oil is an aromatic treasure with a long history of use in ethno-botanical medicine, cosmetics, perfumery, ceremony, and meditation. Because of its wonderful fragrance and healing properties it has become increasingly rare and is now distilled from trees that are over-harvested, illegally harvested, and facing ecological threat through deforestation and grazing. A large percentage of the sandalwood oil on the market is adulterated or produced under unethical conditions.
In response to these legal and ethical issues, some companies are now abandoning the sale of sandalwood oil. At the same time, numerous agro-forestry projects are starting, especially in India, which should be supported.
Sandalwood oil has a long history of use in religious and ceremonial settings in Asia and other parts of the world. The practice of purification through prayer of all kinds was often, if not always, accompanied by the burning of incense such as sandalwood and frankincense resin. Thus the health of the public was promoted through spiritual practices using prayer as well as sacred scents, like sandalwood and frankincense, which possess anti-depressant, and anti-infectious properties. Sandalwood oil is used as the base in making attars (traditional perfumes of India), a process in which flowers are hydro-distilled into a receiver containing sandalwood oil. Sandalwood oil is used in the international fragrance industry as an important fixative for perfumes. Sandalwood oil has been studied as a chemo-preventative in skin cancer studies and as an effective base in mosquito repellents.
